Reception / Year 1 - Crooklets

Mrs Ridpath

Class teacher / EYFS lead

We are a Reception and Year 1 class.

Our PE  day is Wednesday.

Our Library day is Tuesday.
Curriculum & this term's topic - What we are learning

Our topic this term is What is in the Night Sky?

We will be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books to learn about the night sky, or focus text is Owl Babies.
We will be using our text to support our writing and practise our letter formation, capital letters, fingers spaces and full stops. We will be learning about planets in the solar system and creating rockets and planets. We've updated our role play area into a Post Office - who will you send a card, post card or letter to?

We are very excited to also have a visit from Screech Owl Sanctuary in early December.

Useful Activities

Handwriting
Year 1 have been learning our precursive letters, remembering our letters start on the line.
Precursive letters can be found below to support their practice at home.
Reception are practising their letter formation in school and can practise this further at home.

Number formation and recognition
Practicing forming numbers and number recognition from 0 to 8 (reception) and 20 (year 1) will support the children with what they are learning in school.

Here are some useful links with some fun ways to practice at home:

Spellings
Reception and Year 1 children have spellings weekly to practice.
These are sent home on a Friday for the following week.
Any opportunities to practice sounds, segmenting and blending, at home will benefit all children.

Reading
All children have phonics sent home to be read. Reading is so important so we encourage the children to read their phonics books as well as others at home.
