Reception / Year 1 - Crooklets

Mrs Ridpath

Class teacher / EYFS lead

Welcome to Crooklets class!
We are a Reception and Year 1 class.

Our PE  day is Tuesday

Our Library day is Wednesday.
Curriculum & this term's topic - What we are learning

Our topic this term is Are you ready to grow?

We will be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books including Pattan's Pumkin, Sunflower House, Jack and the Beanstalk and Lola Plants a garden.
We will be thinking about what things need to help them grow, including what humans need to help them grow, thinking about what we need to keep a healthy mind and body.

In addition we will be completing lots of writing, building on our taught knowledge of how to form our letters correctly and how to write a simple sentence. We will also be looking at numbers to twenty and beyond as well as manipulating, composing and decomposing shapes.

There will be lots of opportunity to grow different plants in Choosing Your Own Learning  (COOL) time igniting awe and wonder as they see their hard work come to life.
Useful Activities

Handwriting
Year 1 have been learning our precursive letters, remembering our letters start on the line.
Precursive letters can be found below to support their practice at home.
Reception are practising their letter formation in school and can practise this further at home.

Number formation and recognition
Practicing forming numbers and number recognition from 0 to 8 (reception) and 20 (year 1) will support the children with what they are learning in school.

Here are some useful links with some fun ways to practice at home:

Spellings
Year 1 children have spellings weekly to practice.
Reception will begin to have spellings from Summer term.

These are sent home on a Friday for the following week.
Any opportunities to practice sounds, segmenting and blending, at home will benefit all children.

Reading
All children have phonics sent home to be read. Reading is so important so we encourage the children to read their phonics books as well as others at home.
