Out intent:

The Art curriculum is viewed as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thought and ideas.

We aim to:

  • Engage, inspire, challenge –developing proficiency in different mediums
  • Experiment, create and critique - their own works and that of others using the language of art, craft and design
  • cover a wide range of  Influencers – great artists, local artists, craftworkers and designers
  • explore the evolution of society – history, culture, creativity and wealth
  • confidently use vocabulary related to Art and Design

The Kingfisher Award Scheme 2023

Pupils often take part in The Kingfisher Award Scheme, which was established in 1992 by the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes and friends and is part of the educational outreach work carried out by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group Southwest.

The scheme promotes awareness of the countryside, farming and conservation to school children and has 2 parts:

  • The Field Visit. This is a half day farm visit where a range of hands on, fun activities are offered to the children
  • Presentation. A few weeks later the 3 judges will visit the schools to meet the children and view the work they have done. The winning school will receive the prestigious Kingfisher Trophy.
