Nursery
Starting in the 2 year old room , the children focus on observing, drawing and painting shapes from object. They investigate lines, patterns and shapes using a variety techniques and tools.
Reception
In reception, we observe and draw shapes from object. We investigate lines, patterns and shape using different techniques and tools. Also, we investigate textures and identifying primary colours by name. We create images from from a variety of different media.
Year 1
In Year 1, we observe and draw shapes from object. we investigate tone and texture using a variety of techniques and tools including different brush sizes. We can identify primary colours by name. Also, we create images from a variety of different media and we can sort and group materials for different purposes.
Year 2
In Year 2, the children observe and draw shapes, observe and investigate tone, structure and different techniques, mixing primary shades and colours. We use a different variety of techniques and tools using more specific vocabulary. We use a different range of media.
Year 3
In Year 3, the children become proficient with using different drawing and painting techniques. They experiment with grades of pencil to create lines, marks and achieve variation in tone. They use more specific colour language. Also, the children experiment with different mixed media, building a visual dictionary.
Year 4
In Year 4, the children become more proficient with using different techniques, experimenting with tone, lines and texture, developing an awareness of objects having a third dimension. They can mix colours to make new shades. Also, the children experiment with a variate of different mixed media.
Year 5
In Year 5, the children are developing proficiency with using different drawing and painting techniques, identifying different colour schemes. They begin to use simple perspective with a focal point and horizon. The children are developing awareness of composition, scale and proportion. They use a range of different mixed media, developing an individual style.
Year 6
In Year 6, the students are proficient with using different drawing and painting techniques, using dry and wet media to make different lines, marks, patterns, textures and shapes. They explore colour mixing, blending and shading. They start to develop a style using tonal contrast. They develop their skills using different mixed media creating interesting colours, textures and effects.
The Kingfisher Award Scheme 2023
Pupils will take part in The Kingfisher Award Scheme, which was established in 1992 by the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes and friends and is part of the educational outreach work carried out by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group Southwest.
The scheme promotes awareness of the countryside, farming and conservation to school children and has 2 parts:
- The Field Visit. This is a half day farm visit where a range of hands on, fun activities are offered to the children (Friday 19th May 2023).
- Presentation. A few weeks later the 3 judges will visit the schools to meet the children and view the work they have done. The winning school will receive the prestigious Kingfisher Trophy.
