Welcome to Year 2. Mrs Smith will be teaching the children Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday; Mrs Faulds will be teaching them on Thursday and Friday. It is great to see the children coming in every morning really keen to learn and excited to be back in school! We would ask that you say your goodbyes at the outer classroom door and let them come in on their own and hang their own coats up, put book bags away, etc.
As you may be aware, our topic this half term is space and aliens. As an advance warning, we will be having an ‘alien day’ in the last week of the half term where we will be asking children to dress up with a space/astronaut/alien theme. The day will include lots of fun activities and parents will be invited to take part. I will let you know the date as soon as possible.
As ever, we are asking you to support us in encouraging a love of reading in your children and ask that you try to hear your child read at home as often as possible. From next week, we will be starting our reading challenge, information about which you will receive in a separate letter. If your child needs to change their book during the week, please ask your child to put it in the green box labelled ‘Book Changing’. We aim to hear children read in school at least once and hopefully twice a week.
PE will be on a Friday so please ensure your child’s kit is in school. They will need plimsolls or trainers and when we get to the colder weather, tracksuit bottoms are a good idea.
This Friday, the children will be bringing some weekly spellings home to learn. These will be tested on the following Friday. Next week, each child will also have a short list of half termly spellings taken from the curriculum but they will have the whole half term to learn these.
Next week the children will also bring home a homework task in their new ‘Homework Book’. This will happen on a Thursday and the book with the completed homework needs to be returned by the following Wednesday.
Finally, if you have any questions or wish to talk to us about your child, please feel free to come and see us. If we need a longer chat, we can then arrange a mutually convenient time.
